I forgot who posted this sometime back, but this is how I now remove all of my base plates. Being right handed, I hold the Glock tool in my right hand and magazine in my left hand. I push the tool fully into the base plate through the "button hole" then, I pull with my right hand and push with my left.....works perfectly every time.

It was a really tight fit and didn't fit flush with the back of the slide at all. When I went to remove it, it had to be pried out with the tip of a knife.
